A new application has been filed in the Supreme Court challenging the popular wink scene in a song from the upcoming Malayalam movie, Oru Adaar Love, saying that the act of winking is forbidden in Islam.
Presented by two parties based in Hyderabad, the request refers to the verses of the Holy Quran Sharid and wants the court to listen to the petitioners before making a decision on the petition of the actress Priya Prakash Varrier to annul the criminal charges registered in its against in relation to the song wink that went viral in the social networks few hours after its launching.
At the beginning of February of this year, the Supreme Court had suspended all the first information reports (FIR) pending against the song and the film.
The suspension was granted in response to a petition filed by the director, the producer and the actor.
One of the applicants had previously presented an FIR against the song in Hyderabad.
The other applicant claims to be a person "committed to the preservation of the rich Muslim culture and values".

In their application, the applicants have raised the question of a certain objectionable picturing, "which when superimposed on the sacred lyrics of the song can be categorized as an act of blasphemy."
"The 30-second clip shows a young schoolgirl and a schoolboy exchanging smiles, eyebrows, wiggles and winks on the other side of the road, completely captivating the audience, but with a wrinkle in the face of religious Muslims," says the application.
The teachings of Sahih Muslim also prohibit the act of winking, the claimants have claimed.
